About This Book:

In a small town outside sixth century Antioch, teenaged Helena hears a sermon on suffering that shakes her soul, while outside events drive her from her family to the local monastery. In her flight, she encounters very real dangers and situations — murder, rape, coercion, and corruption — that our own youth find today. Helena takes refuge in monastic life.... until she cannot.

This 320-page, soft-cover novel explores suffering and its spiritual meaning in a thought-provoking manner appropriate for mature young adults. Each chapter begins with an illustration by Prebytera Donna Smith.

The author is the presiding priest at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Syracuse, New York. His previous publications include "Mary, Worthy of all Praise" (Conciliar Press; 2003), "Christianity and Pleasure" (Regina Orthodox Press; 2008), and "Help! I'm Bored in Church!" (Ancient Faith Publishing, 2013).

An eBook edition will also be available in December, 2019.
